Teams from Brčko sweep top honours at Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national cup finals

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, March 12, 2018. Two teams from the city of Brčko – ŽOK Bimal-Jedinstvo and OK Mladost – claimed this past weekend the top honours from the finals of this year’s national cup organised by the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The local organisers in Kakanj and Brčko provided perfect conditions for a smooth running of the event with as many as 2,500 fans in total following the matches. Many media – including TV, radio stations, Internet portals and newspapers – extensively reported on the events successfully held in these two cities. BHT1 broadcast the men’s as well as the women’s finals live and nationwide.

In the women’s competition, ŽOK Bimal-Jedinstvo retained the title they had won in 2017 by first routing ŽOK Smeč LUKAVAC 3-0 (25-7, 25-8, 25-15) before rallying to another 3-0 victory in the gold medal match against ŽOK GACKO (25-19, 25-20, 25-17). ŽOK GACKO had previously cruised to a 3-2 victory (16-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-10, 15-13) in their semi-final with OK Kula-Gradačac GRADAČAC.

In the men’s competition, OK Mladost from Brčko were able to retain the crown they had won in 2017 as well. They first won their semi-final against OK Bosna KALESIJA 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-15) before rallying to another 3-0 victory in the final match with OK Borac from Banja Luka (25-15, 25-18, 25-18). The eventual silver medallists had previously claimed a close and dramatic semi-final with the hosts of the tournament OK Kakanj 78 KAKANJ 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 16-25, 15-13).
