Erzeni and Barleti Volley crowned ‘Winter Champions’ in Albania

Tirana, Albania, November 27, 2017. The first half of the regular season in the Albanian national league has ended and the teams are now preparing for a number of other events, including the first elimination stage of the National Cup. This past weekend featured the last games of the first phase of the national championship, with Erzeni (men) and Barleti Volley (women) eventually crowned as “Winter Champions”.

It looks like the battle for the title will be an extremely exciting one, especially in the men’s national league, with three teams that have been performing at the same level. Erzeni, Partizani and Studenti finished the first phase of the national league with seven wins and one loss only, and they are all within two points in the current standing. The reigning national champions of Vllaznia have disappointed this far as they sit in fifth place only, right below Tirana, who finished the first half of the season in fourth. Now, the winter transfers can play a crucial role if these teams still want to fight for the title.

As for the women’s national championship, last year’s gold medal winners Barleti Volley seem to be able to continue their supremacy, as they did not lose a single match so far. Tirana, Partizani and Teuta have all tried to put up a fight but they have failed to dethrone Barleti, who lead the standing on maximum points. However, there is a close fight in this competition as well and the fans can already look forward to the second phase of the regular season.
