Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD claim Serbia men’s national league title after dramatic tiebreaker

Belgrade, Serbia, May 5, 2017. Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD claimed their fourteenth national championship title after beating Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD in the fifth, all-deciding match of the championship series 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 15-9) in front of their home fans, after 136 minutes of play. The two rivals played a memorable game, a true final to cap off the season.

Mr Zoran Gajic, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, presented Cedomir Stankovic, team captain of Vojvodina, with the winners’ trophy.

Prof Veroljub Dugalic, Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, and Mr Vladimir Siska, Vice President of Vojvodina NS Seme, awarded the players of Vojvodina with the gold medals designed for the winners of the competition.

Mr Bogdan Mamuzic, President of the Association of First Division Volleyball Clubs, presented Nikola Muncan, team captain of Crvena Zvezda, with the trophy for the eventual runners-up of the tournament.

Mrs Ana Avramovic, Vice President of the Association of First Division Volleyball Clubs, and Mr Ivan Knezevic, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, awarded the players of Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD with the silver medals.

“We remained focussed when this was most needed. Many people said that we were too young and that we lack experience, so that was an additional reason for us to prove them wrong. After 10 years, we are celebrating again a championship title for the city of Novi Sad,” said David Mehic, outside hitter of Vojvodina NS Seme, and best player of the fifth match.

“The hall was full, as it was in the good old days. Our fans carried us to this victory. We made mistakes, but we are a very young team and that is normal at this stage. I am very happy, because the city of Novi Sad is still the city of Volleyball. This is our joint title,” said Nedzad Osmankac, head coach of Vojvodina NS Seme.

“I congratulate our rivals, since their victory is well-deserved. On the other hand, if we had won, our victory would have been a well-deserved one too. We had our chances and we missed them, but we already set our goals for the next season and we will get back here stronger, I am sure,” said Dragan Kobiljski, head coach of Crvena Zvezda.
