F.Y.R. of Macedonia set the bar high for upcoming European League campaign

Skopje, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, June 6, 2017. On Monday the Volleyball Federation of the F.Y.R. of Macedonia organised a press conference at the Hotel Continental in Skopje to discuss goals and expectations ahead of their men’s national team’s campaign in the 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball European League.

After finishing second in 2015 and 2016, when they lost the gold medal match to Slovenia and Estonia respectively, the goal this season is to make it once again to the Final Four – which is due to take place in early July in Denmark – and win that elusive gold medal. This would take the national team to the next level, something players, managers and all fans have been dreaming about for a long time. The F.Y.R. of Macedonia will be hosting from June 16 to 18 the first of two single round robin tournaments in Pool A where they will take on the national teams of Azerbaijan, Albania and Sweden. A second single round robin will follow one week later in Albania.

After the European League, the Macedonian national team will set their sights on the qualifications for the 2019 edition of the CEV Volleyball European Championship – with participation open to 24 teams for the very first time. The players and the coaching staff are confident about their chances of success and will be trying to emulate what the handball team of Vardar SKOPJE did this past weekend in Cologne – where they historically won the elite EHF Champions League.
