Albania’s women work hard to prepare for European League campaign

Tirana, Albania, May 19, 2017. The Albanian women’s national team have started their preparations for this year’s CEV Volleyball European League, a competition for which the Albanian Volleyball Federation has invested a lot during the last few months. Under the leadership of head coach Altin Martiri, 17 of 20 players due to represent Albania internationally this season started working together with their sights set on June 9, the day they will be contesting their first match against Finland – before later that same weekend Albania take on Austria and Belarus in Pool A.

The last three players will join the group next week, because they are still busy with their collegiate championship in the USA. Albania are participating in the CEV Volleyball European League for the second straight year after making their historic debut in 2016.

The President of the Albanian Volleyball Federation, Erlind Pellumbi, who followed the first training very closely, said that he expects a lot from this team. “We started today a new adventure, hoping to improve on the results we achieved last year. I believe in this team, in the head coach and in his staff. We will host the first round of play in Pool A here in Tirana, hoping that many fans will come and support us as we will be trying to win all the matches we are due to contest,” he said.

The team will continue with their preparations with two training sessions per day. The roster includes many new players, mostly young ones, who will make this season their debut with the national team.
