2017 Balkan Kids Festival coming up on Saturday in Podgorica

Podgorica, Montenegro, May 12, 2017. The 2017 edition of the Balkan Kids Festival will be taking place this coming Saturday, May 13 in Podgorica – and namely on the iconic stage provided by Independence Square. The Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG), Mr Ivan Boskovic, and Organising Director Milos Jovanovic disclosed plans for the upcoming event at a press conference held at the OSCG premises in Podgorica.

“The Balkan Volleyball Kids Festival for children from across the Balkans is a project initiated by the Balkan Volleyball Association with the goal to promote Volleyball in our region. Kids Festivals have previously taken place in Kocaeli and Istanbul in Turkey, as well as in Belgrade. The Volleyball Federation of Montenegro has done everything to deliver this year’s festival in Podgorica and for Montenegro to have the honour of hosting such an event, which will bring together more than 120 children from 10 Balkan countries. I would like to stress that many famous Volleyball players will join us as well and I am especially pleased with the participation of Vladimir Vanja Grbic, a celebrated Yugoslav Volleyball player, Olympic gold medallist in Sydney and a member of the Volleyball Hall of Fame,” Mr Boskovic said.

What is important to note is that it is not just about a Volleyball competition, since all children will become familiar with the cultural attractions of Podgorica and they will join a sightseeing tour of the Montenegrin capital.

“As part of the event, we decided to include also children from our project Jugopetrol EKO Mini Volleyball league. We expect over 400 children, who will also be part of this festival and will get their medals, thanks to our sponsor Jugopetrol. I would like to thank the Capital City of Podgorica, the Tourist Office of Podgorica and the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, for their help in organising the Balkan Kids Festival. Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to call upon all citizens of Podgorica and Montenegro to come on Saturday at the Independence Square so that together we can make this event a huge success,” Mr Boskovic concluded.

“Twenty participating teams from 10 countries from across the Balkan region will be divided into four groups; each match will be played in one set won, up to 25 points,” Organising Director Milos Jovanovic said. “Each team will consist of six players, three boys and three girls. The respective age categories are for boys - born in 2003 and younger and for girls - born in 2004 and younger. At the end of the event, all participants will receive a gold medal, because they are all winners as per the slogan of the Kids Festival – “Volleyball wins”.
