10,000 Volleyball fans gather in front of Belgrade City Hall to greet World Champions

Belgrade, Serbia, October 23, 2018. Once again, a fantastic picture was sent from Belgrade all around the world, as Volleyball fans came in great numbers to welcome and see in person the newly crowned World Champions standing at the legendary balcony of the City Hall. The first women’s Volleyball team who got to the balcony back in 2006 was also the Women’s Volleyball National team, bronze medallists from the 2006 World Championship in Japan, and now, twelve years later, people celebrated an even bigger success of Serbia’s favourite and most awarded national team in recent years.

In return for their support and love, the players threw volleyballs from the balcony, signed by the team members, as a memorable prize for the luckiest ones in the crowd. During the ceremony, the fans could see a video message from Bojana Milenkovic, injured player who unfortunately had to return home before the end of the Championship, sending her love to the people and her teammates for this incredible result.

Before the ceremony, team members were greeted by Prof Dr Zoran Radojicic, Lord Mayor of Belgrade, Mr Vanja Udovicic, Minister of Youth and Sports in the Serbian Government, Mr Nikola Nikodijevic, President of the Belgrade City Assembly, Mrs Sandra Pantelic, head of the City Administration Office, Mr Andreja Mladenovic, Lord Mayor’s Assistant, Mrs Dragana Belojevic, Municipal Secretary of Sports, and Mr Darko Udovicic, Acting Minister of Sports Assistant.

“I think we performed well during the whole Championship, we lost two matches, but these defeats came in the right time to set our heads straight. I am really happy, especially because I played after a knee surgery and everything went well both on and off the court. This is a special moment for all of us and we are enjoying it with all our hearts,” said outside hitter Brankica Mihajlovic.
