Plaque for Mr.Achielleas MAVROMATIS
Being the Secretary General of Balkan Volleyball Federation (BVA) since 6 years, Achilleas MAVROMATIS was in İstanbul.
Due to Supervisory Nomination in Indesit Champions League Match between Fenerbahçe Acıbadem-Prostejov teams, a Plaque was presented to Mr.Mavromatis during his stay in İstanbul for his precious services and contributions for the Balkan Volleyball.
The administration of Balkan Volleyball Association is now in Turkey as of the General Assembly at 12 December 2009 in Sarajevo. The plaque was presented by the Turkish Volleyball Federation’s President and BVA Vice-President Mr.Erol Ünal KARABIYIK .

The 2009 BVA General Assembly
The 2009 BVA General Assembly was held in
Sarajevo (Bosnia Herzegovina), on Saturday, December
12th, and was
attended by the CEV President Mr. Andre Meyer,
the CEV Senior Vice Presidents Mr. Philip Berben and
the CEV Vice President Mr. Jan Hronek.
It was one of the important meetings in the history
of the BVA, as there were major changes in the
Association following the resignation of long time
Secretary General Mr. Achilleas Mavromatis (Greece)
for personal reasons. The attending Federations and
Mr. Meyer thanked Mr. Mavromatis for his work and
his contribution to the BVA cause. The Assembly
elected as its new President Mr. Mladen Rabrenovic,
President of the Federation of Montenegro, and Mr.
Erol Unal Karabiyik, President of the Turkish
Volleyball Federation, as its new Vice President.
Following the resignations of Mr. Mavromatis and the
Press Officer Mr. Zacharias Nikolaidis, the BVA
office will be moved to Istanbul (Turkey) for the
next two years. The new Secretary General will be
Mr. Ozkan Mutlugil (Turkey) and the new Press
Officer will be appointed by the Turkish Volleyball
Federation. The Technical Committee remains
unchanged and will hold its annual meeting in April.
The Assembly also decided to form a Working Group,
which will meet in January and discuss a new format
for the BVA Cup for clubs.
The National Team competitions for 2010 were
distributed as following: JUNIOR MEN in Bulgaria and
FYROM (co-hosting), JUNIOR WOMEN in Bosnia
Herzegovina (Banja Luka), YOUTH MEN in Greece (Alexandroupolis
or Langadas), YOUTH WOMEN in Montenegro (Bar), BEACH
VOLLEY M&W in Turkey, BEACH VOLLEY U20 in Greece (Asprovalta).
The U23 Beach Volley Championships venue will be
announced in March 2010. The 2010 General Assembly
will be held in Podgorica (Montenegro), in December.

Men's BVA Cup: Fenerbahce lifts the Cup!
For the second consecutive year the Men's BVA Cup
went to Turkey, after Fenerbahce won it in
Thessaloniki, to emulate 2008 champions Buyuksehir. The
Istanbul based team beat hosts Aris Thessaloniki 3:2
in the Vassilika Sports Hall, after the Greek team
came from behind (1:2) to force a tie break. But the
Turkish players' service caused havoc to the Greek
reception and they finally won the title after five
sets. Croatian star Tomislav Coskovic was the
tournament's top scorer and Greek international
Nikos Roumeliotis claimed the MVP award.
The most crucial and exciting set was the third,
where Fenerbahce led 18-14, but Aris came back and
led himslef 23-22. The Turkish team threw away its
first set ball, but two consecutive points from
Lukas Divis gave them the 2:1 lead. In the tie break
Fenerbahce took command at 11-9 and from 12-10 on,
consecutive block points won them the match.
Coskovic finished the match with 31 points and Divis
added 16. For Aris, Roumeliotis had 23 points.
Earlier, Partizan Belgrade beat Napredak Odzak 3:0
and claimed the bronze medal.

Women's BVA Cup: Besiktas wins it again
Defending champions
Besiktas Istanbul won the Women's BVA CUp for the
second consecutive year in Tuzla, beating once again
Serbian opposition. The Turkish team, led by Yagmur
Cocygit and Melis Gurkaynak, who both scored 17
points, beat Serbia's VC Klek 3:1. Dragana Bartula
scored 24 points, but they were enough only to bring
her the MVP title. Medicina TG Mures won the bronze
medal after an easy straight set victory over hosts
Tuzla.

BVA
General Assembly in Sarajevo
During the CEV General Assembly in Izmir, the BVA
representatives held their own meeting, in the
presence of the CEV President Mr. Andre Meyer and
the CEV Vice President Mr. Jan Hronek. The
representatives decided that the 2009 BVA General
Assembly will be held in Sarajevo (Bosnia
Herzegovina) on December 12. Also, during the
meeting of the CEV Zonal Associations, the BVA
Secretary Mr. Achilleas Mavromatis presented the BVA
Activity Report.
Bulgaria
captures Euro bronze
Bulgaria beat Russia 3:0 and finished on a high note
the Men's European Championships in Izmir, capturing
the bronze medal. Also middle blocker Viktor Yosifof
was named the tournaments best blocker. Three more
Balkan teams participated in this year's finals,
with Serbia finishing in 5th place (and thus
qualifying for the 2011 finals), Greece in 8th place
and hosts Turkey in 13th place. Also, the President
of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation Mr. Dancho
Lazarov was elected as the new member of the CEV
Board of Administration.
* Earlier
Serbia won the Youth Boys World Championships in
Jesolo, to win the title for the first time in its
history. Led by MVP Aleksandar Atanasijevic, who
scored 24 points in the final, the young "Plavi"
came from behind and beat Iran 3:2.

Beach Volley M&W: Bulgarian supremacy in Vlora
The Men & Women Beach Volley Balkan Championships was held in Vlora, on Albania's Adriatic coast
and the Bulgarian teams were the big winners of the
tournament, wining two gold and a silver medal in
the last BVA competition for national teams this
year.
Konstantin Mitev and Miroslav Gradinarov beat their
compatriots Teodor Marinov and Valentin Dimov 2:0 in
the Men's final, while Bezdrop and Muharemovic won
the first Beach Volley medal for Bosnia Herzegovina,
with a 2:1 victory over the Gogtepe brothers of
Turkey.
In the women's category Rusena Slancheva and Diana
Malinova scored a clear 2:0 victory over Greek pair
Athena Dilaveri and Elina Papadopoulou to win the
gold medal. And Serbia continued its medal howl this
year, with Ivana Isailovic and Jelena Blagojevic beating Romania's Diana Balintoni and Irina Alexandru to claim the
bronze medal.

Beach Volley U20: Romania and Serbia win gold
Bogdan Mehedinteanu and Julian Bala completed an amazing finals
series in the U20 Beach Volley Balkan Championships in Asprovalta,
by wining the men's gold medal. They dominated the final against
heavy favorites Zlatan Yordanov and Delcho Raev and beat 2:1,
sending the few Romanian fans in frenzy...
Also,
Nina Skaric and Sanja Trivunovic stunned Greek favorites Athena
Tassou and Anna Spanou to win the women's final. With the
support of many Serbian tourists in this Northern Greece seaside
resort, they beat their opponents 2:0, after the home team led 19-16
in the second set. But they could not force a tie break, as the
Serbians came back and celebrated their first international title.
* Earlier, Skaric and Trivunovic made
another amazing comeback from 8:12 and 10:13 in the tie break (with
Skaric serving) and beat Greeks Pigianna Metheniti and Dimitra
Sagovic 2:1, to reach the final of the women's U20 Balkan
Championships in Asprovalta. They will meet the top Greek pair
Athena Tassou (U23 silver medalist) and Anna Spanou, who beat also
2:1 Turkey's Elif Kavrar & Bahanur Sahin. The men's semi finals were less dramatic, as Bulgarians Delcho Raev
& Zlatan Yordanov and Romanians Bogdan Mehedinteanu & Iulian-Marian Bala bet their opponents 2:0 and will meet in the final.
* Romanians Bala &
Mehenditeanu beat Greece's
Kongalidis & Rezk and took the last men's semi finals spot. They
will now face the last remaining Greek outfit, Mittas & Aristopoulos,
while in the other semi final Bulgarians Raev & Yordanov will meet
Serbians Nikolic & Babulj. Earlier, two Greek teams (Tassou & Spanou and Metheniti & Sagovic)
qualified for the women's semi finals. They face respectively
Serbia's Skaric & Trivunovic and Turkey's Kavrar & Sahin, who beat
the third Greek team (Vlachaki & Sfyri) to book their semi final
place.
* The tournament started on Saturday in Asprovalta,
the seaside resort in Northern Greece and, offered some spectacular
matches to the fans who almost filled the stands on the beach. Play was briefly interrupted in the evening, due to rain, but
started a few minutes later and the first day concluded (under the
rain) with an all Greek math-up: U23 silver medalist Tassou, playing
with new partner Spanou, beat compatriots Metheniti and Sagovic in
straight sets, to seal their passage to the semi finals.

Beach Volley U23: Buz & Calinciuc complete "treble"
Romania's Sorina Buz and Loredana Calinciuc completed a remarkable
treble of BVA titles on Sunday, confirming their status as "Queens
of the Beach" in the Balkan competitions. After their 2006 triumphs
in the U20 and Women categories, "Soso" and "Placinta" also won the
inaugural Beach Volley U23 Balkan Championships in Izmir (Turkey),
beating Greeks Atrhena Tassou and Olga Malousari 2-0. Albania's Alba Qose and Brusilda Gjeka won the bronze medal, denying
Romanians Balintoni and Popa of a second medal for their country.
In the men's division, the honor of being the first ever U23
champions went to Bulgarians Valentin Dimov and Kiril Hadzhiev, who beat Serbia's
Stefan Basta & Igor Tesic in straight sets. Romanians Iulian Bala &
Bogdan Mehedinteanu completed the podium, after beating Albanians
Arian Cuni & Andi Prela.

Youth Boys: Penchev and Bulgaria strike gold
Bulgaria beat Serbia
3:1 in Kazanlak and won the Youth Boys Balkan Championships for the
first time after 2005, in front of 850 enthusiastic home fans.
Nikolay Penchev, who was voted MVP for the second consecutive year
and blocker Ventsislav Trifonof led the home team, after Serbia came
from behind and almost forced a tie break.
The final itself had a special sense, with a new generation of
famous names in the court, as Plamen Dragiev and Jani Jeliaskov,
sons of ex star Bulgarians Petio Dragiev and Nikolay Jeliaskov, took
on Aleksa Brdjovic, the son of Serbia's Olympic champion Dejan
Brdjovic and Uros Kovacevic, the brother of current international
Nikola Kovacevic, playing at the World League final against Brazil.
Earlier, Montenegro beat Turkey in straight sets and captured a
magnificent season with the bronze, after the Junior Men gold.

Junior Men: Montenegro wins first ever gold
Montenegro beat Greece 3:1 in Danilovgrad, to win its first ever
Balkan gold medal, in the Junior Men Championships. Vuk Medenica
scored 20 points and led the home team, as the players of Srdjan
Popovic delighted the 500 spectators in the Gradska Sports Arena.
Vojin Cacic added 15 and was named MVP, while Marko Djuranovic was
the awarded the best blocker trophy. For injury hit Greece, Mitar
Djuric played only in the first sets but still managed to score 15
points and Giannis Roumeliotakis, their best scorer in the
tournament, added 12. The Greek team also served 9 aces.
Serbia, without its top spiker Uros Kovacevic, consoled themselves
with the bronze medal, after beating Bosnia Herzegovina 3:2, Romania
claimed 5th place with 3:1 win over Turkey and Albania beat
F.Y.R.O.M. 3:1 to finish 7th.
Other individual awards went to Serbia's Aleksa Brdjovic (best
setter) and Uros Kovacevic (best attacker), Romania's Marian Bala
(best server) and Greece's Theologos Daridis (best libero).

Junior Women: Rabadzhieva leads Bulgaria to the top
Bulgaria beat Serbia 3:0 on Sunday and won its first Junior Women
Balkan Championships, since the BVA took over the competition. Two
months after they eliminated their opponents from the World
Championships in Gabrovo, Stoyan Gunchev's girls repeated their feat
in Portaria and with outstanding Dobriana Rabadzhieva in great form
(21 points), they took revenge for their 2008 defeat in Tuzla.
Gabriela Tsvetanova added 14 points (including 3 aces).
The Serbian team served almost the entire match at Elitsa Vasileva
and managed to keep her quiet in attack (4 points), but it was
Rabadziehva who was the Plavis' nemesis and deservedly won the MVP
title of the tournament. Captain Nadja Ninkovic scored 13 points,
but last year's top performer, Tijana Malesevic had only 18% in
attack (3 points) and Bulgaria had 7 block points to Serbia's 4.
Earlier, Turkey beat Romania 3:0 to capture the bronze medal, Greece
beat Bosnia Herzegovina 3:1 for 5th place and Montenegro downed
Albania 3:1 to take 7th place.

Youth Girls: Serbia back on top
The Youth Girls Balkan Championships ended on Friday in Sarajevo and
Serbia returned to the top, after one year's absence. In the rematch
of the 2008 final, Serbia beat defending champions Turkey 3:0, in
front of 500 volleyball fans, it the Ramiz Salcin Sports Hall. Led
by MVP Sara Klisura (the 17 years old prodigy from Subotica scored
18 points), Maria Mirosavljevic's girls were superior throughout the
game, although they had to come from behind in the second set, where
Turkey led 18:13.
Earlier, Bosnia Herzegovina captured the bronze medal in Balkan
competitions (their third consecutive medal after Obrenovac and
Tuzla), beating Romania 3:1, Greece beat Bulgaria 3:0 to take 5th
place and Montenegro downed Albania 3:0 and finished 7th.
